Tips for Fasting for Breastfeeding Mothers

1. Eat healthy food at Sahur and breaking the fast

During breastfeeding, mothers are advised to eat three times a day with the right nutritional intake. Namely, 20% fat, 30% protein, and 50% carbohydrates.

So, even though this month of Ramadan you will be fasting, make sure you maintain your nutritional intake. The tip is that you can change your eating schedule or habits of consuming certain foods.

For example, if you usually eat fruit during the day, you can change the schedule to dawn.

2. Fulfill your fluid needs every day

Everyone who fasts will definitely experience dehydration if they don't maintain their mineral intake. Especially mothers who are currently breastfeeding.

To minimize the risk of dehydration, make it a habit to drink at least 2 liters of water per day. For example, two glasses to 3 glasses at dawn and five glasses or six glasses after breaking the fast until just before dawn.

3. Consume Health Supplements

If needed, mothers can take supplements during Ramadan. However, before deciding to apply these fasting tips for breastfeeding mothers, it is a good idea to consult with a doctor first.

4. Avoid strenuous activities

Basically, carrying out activities as usual in the month of Ramadan is good for your health. However, make sure mothers don't do things that are too heavy.

The reason is apart from making the body tired quickly; breast milk production can also decrease due to the mother being tired.

5. Get enough rest

During the fasting month, there are many things that can be used as a source of reward. For breastfeeding mothers, taking care of and providing breast milk during the month of Ramadan will certainly provide more rewards.

Moreover, when you decide to fast during this holy month, getting enough rest during the day can also be a source of reward for breastfeeding mothers.

On the other hand, getting enough rest can also make your body fitter during Ramadan. So, breastfeeding for babies can also continue without obstacles.

6. Give breast milk with discipline

So that the baby's health is not affected by the mother fasting, make sure to continue providing breast milk. Either directly or by giving it in a milk bottle (pacifier).
